Steelers Honor Fallen Officer Michael Crawshaw Before Game

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers and fans paid tribute to fallen officer Michael Crawshaw before Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Channel 4 Action News reporter Ashlie Hardway caught up with the Crawshaw family when they were leaving Heinz Field after the tribute.

“It meant a lot to our family, just recognizing what a great person he was, what he did and his job and the sacrifice he made,” said Officer Crawshaw’s cousin, Sarah Kieler. “I think he’d be impressed by all of it and he’d be in awe of all of it.”

The Crawshaw family is moving forward with plans to sell T-shirts and wristbands to donate towards a statue to be erected in his honor. They also wrote a letter to legislators asking for stricter punishments for parolees.

“We’ve had to endure this but no other family should have to,” said Kieler. ” While the support means the world to this family, it doesn’t bring Mike back. Our family would gladly trade it all for a day with mike again.”

Officer Crawshaw was shot and killed on Dec. 6, while responding to a call for a man with a gun in a Penn Hills home.

Prison parolee Ronald Robinson, 32, of Homewood, has been charged in this death and that of Danyal Morton, who was inside the house. Officer Crawshaw was shot and killed as he waited in his patrol car for other officers to arrive.
